2009 Conference to Focus on Healthcare IT and Helping Budding Entrepreneurs
Bob Venero, CEO of Future Tech Enterprise, Inc., will be among seven successful
entrepreneurs leading a panel discussion during the 2009 CEWIT Conference at the
Long Island Marriott in Islandia on October 1.
CEWIT (The Center for Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology)
is a $250 million government / industry
/ academic partnership leading the next wave of the wireless and information
technology revolution. Its mission is to conduct world class interdisciplinary
research in the emerging critical technologies, foster new enterprise
development, address the technology worker shortage and become a world leader in
wireless and information technology.
Participating on the Entrepreneur Panel will be:
Lisa Broughton, Suffolk County
Department for Economic Development and Workforce Housing;
John Demarest, New York State
Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research (NYSTAR);
Anil Dhundale, Long Island High Technology Incubator;
Monique Gablenz, Stony Brook University’s Calverton Business Incubator;
Steven Goad, Long Island Development Corporation (LIDC); and
Jeffrey Saelens, Small Business
Development Center (SBDC) at Stony Brook University.
The Entrepreneur Panel will consist of four scenarios describing businesses at
different stages of development and the needs of the business at that particular
stage. Panelists will be asked to describe any of their programs that would be
able to assist that business at that particular stage. Audience members will
relate to one of the four scenarios and gain a greater understanding of the many
programs available to assist them through CEWIT. The workshop will conclude with
a Q&A and an opportunity for audience members to have individual conversations
with the panelists.
Mr. Venero will offer his expertise as one of Long Island’s most celebrated
business success stories. The founder of Future Tech Enterprise Inc., Mr. Venero
started the company in the basement of his home in 1996; today it is an
end-to-end full-service solution provider with 2009 sales of $100 million and
clients that include JetBlue, Northrop Grumman and Barnes & Noble.
“The three most important things you need to keep the momentum going is getting
validation from your peers and potential customers, getting funding up front
from your top supporters, and formulating a solid business plan that remains
flexible to changing market needs,” explained Mr. Venero, who stressed passion
and perseverance as two common traits among all entrepreneurs. “But the most
important thing to remember – aside from separating your business from your
family life – is that everything ties to sales; use your sales, marketing and
networking skills to strengthen your hold in the industry you’ve chosen, and be
sure to readjust your goals as you grow.”
Named one of Long Island’s top 10 fastest growing companies for five consecutive
years, Future Tech is regularly recognized for its dedication to its partners,
and was recently declared the #1 HP Personal Systems Group Regional Growth
Partner. Mr. Venero – who was featured on the cover of VARBusiness when Future Tech was
chosen 2005 VAR of the Year by Everything Channel -- speaks frequently at
industry events and functions.
