Bayport-Blue Point High School Students Attend Future Tech's Annual Job Shadow Day

Program Aims to Deliver Real World Experiences and Help Students Explore Career Paths

Holbrook, NY - Dec 9th, 2009 - Four Bayport-Blue Point High School juniors attended Future Tech Enterprise, Inc.’s annual Job Shadow Day on November 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  These four students were selected from the School to Business Partnership program, which aims to deliver real-world experience to students who are exploring different career paths. The purpose of Job Shadow Day at Future Tech is to give these students an overall understanding of day-to-day operations at this local information technology solution provider.

“Shadow Day has become a great experience for our students,” said Dr. Tim Hearney, principle of Bayport-Blue Point High School. “This annual event is a great opportunity for our students to gain insight into a profession that they may have an interest in pursuing once they leave high school. I cannot thank Future Tech or the other businesses enough for all their support with this school initiative.”

Catherine Calame, director of marketing and public relations for Future Tech, gave a tour of the Future Tech facilities and introduced the students to the various departments and executive team. The students where then able to observe many different jobs positions such as sales, human resources, warehouse services, configuration services, accounting, graphic design and marketing. With each encounter the students were able to question Future Tech about their education, special skills, challenges, rewards, and career choices.

“Once again we are very pleased to have our students attend Job Shadow Day at Future Tech,” said Doug Monsell, business teacher and director of the School to Business Partnership. “In addition to Future Tech, other Long Island companies participate each year to help Bayport-Blue Point High School Students gain knowledge of the working world.”

At the end of the day, students met with Bob Venero, president and CEO, for one-on-one insight into his career path and how he built Future Tech into a $100 million IT company. Mr. Venero also asked the students about their career goals and interests, and told them, “No matter your career path, believe that you have the right to ask for anything you want, and develop into anything you want to be.”

As a graduate of Bayport-Blue Point High School, Mr. Venero is dedicated to creating an educational atmosphere for the community through his alma mater, as well as through local colleges and universities. “We’re committed to helping our local students understand what it’s like to work in the real world through our Internship Program,” said Mr. Venero. “By working with young talent and exposing them to all the opportunities available to them as Long Islanders, we’re helping to avoid the ‘brain drain’ scenario and we’re keeping our workforce strong and vibrant.”

For additional information about internships at Future Tech, contact Catherine Calame at ccalame@ftei.com. Opportunities are available in several departments for college students seeking academic credit during the Spring, Summer or Fall semesters.
